Tinseltown sparkles even brighter this Sunday when the film industry and its hordes of super-famous stars descend on Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre for the 91st annual Academy Awards. The Oscars mark the end of awards season, the time period between early November and the end of February when red carpets are rolled out in celebration of the year’s best on-screen entertainment.
Between the People’s Choice Awards, the Critics’ Choice Awards, the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and this weekend’s event, that’s a lot of red carpets to walk for nominees, presenters, and other VIPs. And around half of those invited to these events are usually wearing a pair of famously uncomfortable high heels—ouch! So, how do these stars prepare for hours of posing for cameras and the subsequent post-show foot pain?
Many celebrities have turned to CBD, or cannabidiol, to help them get through awards season—and the rest of the year, for that matter. CBD is one of many organic chemical compounds called cannabinoids, which are found in the cannabis plants hemp and marijuana. Research shows that cannabidiol has no psychoactive effect, poses no health risks and may aid in treating a variety of health problems.
And Hollywood’s elite are not only embracing CBD, they’re endorsing it. So, we picked out a handful of La La Land’s brightest stars who are enthusiastically supporting the natural wellness alternative.
CELEBRITIES & CBD: Jennifer Aniston
In an interview with Us Weekly, the Friends favorite praised CBD for how it may aid in a trio of health issues. “CBD helps with pain, stress, and anxiety. It has all the benefits of marijuana without the high,” Aniston told the magazine.
Indeed, science seems to agree with the actress, as studies have exhibited CBD’s analgesic and anxiolytic properties. Additionally, a research team at Canada’s prestigious McGill University even worked on pinpointing the exact dosage of CBD to treat pain and anxiety.
CELEBRITIES & CBD: Busy Philipps
The actress and E! network late-night television host (Busy Tonight), best known for her roles in Dawson’s Creek and Cougar Town, told Health magazine she uses CBD to cope with anxiety. In the interview, Phillips said she uses gummies and that she considers herself “a strong proponent” of CBD (and THC, to be thorough).
CELEBRITIES & CBD: Dakota Johnson
Research also supports that CBD also may aid in promoting sleep, and that’s exactly why Johnson uses it. The 50 Shades of Grey Star told Elle that she uses CBD drops to sleep while traveling. “I try to knock myself out on planes; otherwise my whole world falls apart,” she said.
CELEBRITIES & CBD: Gwyneth Paltrow
The Oscar-winning actress is often ahead of the trend when it comes to natural wellness products. So, it’s no surprise she’s been vocal about supporting CBD. Indeed, Paltrow told beauty website Into the Gloss she uses cannabidiol for stress, emphasizing that CBD “doesn’t make you stoned or anything, just a little relaxed.”
CELEBRITIES & CBD: Olivia Newton John
The Grease star announced in May 2017 that she had been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, and that she would treat the disease in part with “natural wellness therapies,” according to Health. The magazine also reported that Newton-John’s daughter, actress/singer Chloe Rose Lattanzi, posted shortly after the announcement that Newton-John would be using CBD. Notably, the actress has since gone on to endorse cannabis-derived oil for pain.
And there’s many, many more...
Numerous other celebrities have come forward with their own stories of using CBD. For instance, a quick Google search reveals that Sarah Paulson, Olivia Wilde, Mandy Moore, and Katy Perry all have been vocal about their own CBD usage.
